Sabbath Sermon Experience 10-17-2026

What does it mean to truly hear something? Not just to let words pass through our ears, but to be so gripped by what we hear that it reshapes how we see our problems and how boldly we approach God? That is the question at the heart of this message, drawn from Luke chapter 7, verses 1 through 11, the story of the centurion and his dying servant. The centurion was a man of power and position, commanding soldiers and holding authority that most people in his world could only dream of. Yet there was one thing he could not fix, one crisis beyond his reach. And then he heard about Jesus. Not just a rumor, but a growing body of evidence stretching back through Luke chapters 4 through 6, stories of lepers cleansed, storms rebuked, demons cast out, and nets so full of fish that boats began to sink. When all of that landed in the centurion's heart, something remarkable happened. He did not ask Jesus to come and perform a ritual. He did not appeal to his own goodness or generosity. He simply said, speak the word. That request reveals a faith so precise and so confident that Jesus marveled at it. For us, the invitation is to ask ourselves what we have truly heard about Jesus, and whether what we have heard has yet moved us to that same kind of bold, expectant trust.
