Sabbath Sermon Experience 6-13-2026

This powerful message takes us deep into the story of Jonah, but not in the way we might expect. Rather than focusing on the prophet's dramatic three days in the belly of a fish, we're challenged to confront something far more uncomfortable: our own prejudices and resistance to God's mercy. The sermon reveals how Jonah's reluctance to preach to Nineveh wasn't about fear or inadequacy, but about hatred for his enemies. He didn't want them saved; he wanted them destroyed. This raises a mirror to our own hearts: How often do we withhold the message of salvation from certain people because we've already decided they're unworthy? How many times have we become angry when God shows mercy to those we've judged? The story's climax isn't the fish or the storm, but God's gentle rebuke: Jonah cared more about a plant that gave him shade than about 60,000 souls who didn't know their right hand from their left. The spiritual application cuts deep into modern church life, where we sometimes hold the keys to the bus and decide who gets kicked off. We're reminded that our job isn't to determine outcomes or play God, but simply to go and share the message, trusting the Holy Spirit to do the transforming work.
